- Make cuts in the baked pastry and fill it with the pudding mix.
- Melt the chocolate and 2 tbsp butter in a sauce pan and add I tsp vanilla and confectioner?s sugar and stir well. Cool it and apply over the filled ?clairs. Chill and serve.

Egypt: Army chief seeks mandate to fight violence
CAIRO (AP) ? Egypt's military chief on Wednesday called on his countrymen to hold mass demonstrations to voice their support for the army and police to deal with potential "violence and terrorism," a move that signals a stepped up campaign against supporters of the ousted Islamist president.
Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, addressing a graduation ceremony for a class of military cadets, urged Egyptians to take to the streets Friday, saying a massive turnout would give him a "mandate" and an "order" to do what is "necessary" to stop bloodshed.
Since the military removed Mohammed Morsi three weeks ago, the ousted president's Islamist supporters have taken to the streets vowing to continue protests until he is restored. Clashes have erupted multiple times between the Islamists and Morsi opponents or security forces.
Each side accuses the other of starting the violence. Dozens have been killed, mostly from the pro-Morsi side, including more than 50 who were killed by troops during clashes at their Cairo sit-in.
Throughout, the military and its allied media have depicted the protesters as a dangerous armed movement. Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood and its allies say their protests are peaceful. El-Sissi called for rallies Friday to be as large as those on June 30, when millions took to the streets to demand Morsi's ouster, and July 3, when millions again celebrated his ouster. He promised police and troops would guard the rallies.
The call for demonstrations is likely to be matched by similar calls by Morsi's supporters, raising the specter of violence on Friday.
"On Friday, every honorable and honest Egyptian must come out. Come out and remind the whole world that you have a will and resolve of your own," el-Sissi said. "Please, shoulder your responsibility with me, your army and the police and show your size and steadfastness in the face of what is going on," said the U.S.-trained general.
El-Sissi cautioned that his call for mass demonstrations should not be taken as an invitation to violence.
Commenting on el-Sissi's address, Essam el-Erian, a senior Brotherhood leader, made it clear that the Morsi camp intends to stick to its guns. "There is no solution except rescinding the coup and the return of legitimacy," he told Al-Jazeera Mubasher Misr.
Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood on Wednesday boycotted the inaugural session of a reconciliation conference sponsored by interim President Adly Mansour. The session was chaired by Mohamed ElBaradei, Egypt's top reform campaigner who was named vice president after Morsi's ouster.
The July 3 coup that ousted Morsi followed four days of mass protests by millions of Egyptians demanding that he step down.
Morsi's supporters insist he must be reinstated, branding his ouster as a coup against democracy. The former president was Egypt's first freely elected leader, but his opponents say he concentrated too much power in his own hands and his Islamist group, the Muslim Brotherhood.
El-Sissi said on Wednesday that he had no intention, "not a for a second," to go back on a political road map he announced the day he ousted Morsi, which entailed parliamentary and presidential elections by early 2014 and a referendum before that on a new constitution or amendments to the one drafted by Morsi's Islamist backers.
He promised foreign observers from the U.N. and the European Union would be invited to monitor the elections. "We are ready for an election to be supervised by the whole world," he said.
El-Sissi was a member of the military council that ruled Egypt for nearly 17 months after the ouster in 2011 of autocrat Hosni Mubarak. He was the chief of military intelligence at the time. Morsi named him defense minister and military chief in August 2012.
On Wednesday, el-Sissi sharply criticized Morsi and the Brotherhood, repeating assertions he has repeatedly made in the last three weeks that they were driving the country toward civil strife and imposing their own brand of Islam to a mostly resistant population.
He said he had never shied away from speaking his mind to Morsi.
"Don't ever think that I deceived the former president. I repeatedly told him that the army is the army of all Egyptians and stands at an equal distance from all parties. I told him that the army is under his command because he had an electoral mandate," he said.

Military Vet Does Honor HIke Across America
LITTLE ROCK, AR- A Vietnam era Marine Veteran is walking thousands of miles to honor men and women in uniform. Lance Robinson is doing the ?Honor Hike Across America? alone, pulling a 120 pound cart decorated with our Armed Force?s flags and our nation?s flag.
"It's a very dangerous thing to do, by ones self, across a nation that is so vast. I pull this cart as much as I can," said Lance Robinson, Marine Veteran.
Robinson?s goal is to travel to 48 states and talk to politicians about a new day he?d like Americans to honor.
"Brother to Brother day, September 10th, would recognize all men and women in uniform that dawn the uniform in sacrifice; our military, our police, our firemen, our EMTs, and our veterans,? said Robinson.
The veteran started his journey almost 3 years ago, traveling to 29 state capitols. He made his 30th stop in Little Rock this weekend. Robinson does the same thing as he reaches each state capitol. He says a prayer and then asks politicians to consider his proposal.
"Not all of them are willing to accept that request, so I just carry on," said Robinson.
Carry on he does, even though he admits giving up at times.
"When I meet men and women, they give me the strength I need to keep going and I?m not going to quit. I can't quit on that little boy that came up to me with a letter in his hand, handed it to me and said God Bless you Lance. I can't quit on him. I'm not," said Robinson.
It?s people like these who help Robinson on the road. He solely relies on donations to survive on his long trek, such as food and a place to sleep at night, but he made sure to bring the basics.
"I have at least 5 pairs of shorts, under garments, we have our hygene products, water," said Robinson.

Number Of Chinese Internet Users Hit Almost 600 Million
The China Internet Network Information Center released information on the end of June internet usage in the country and the number of people in China who are using the internet has grown to 591 million. That's a 10% rise over last year and about 44% of the population.
The increase was driven by a 20% rise in the number of people who are surfing the web using smartphones and other wireless devices. The number of users using wireless devices has jumped to 464 million.
While the Chinese government encourages the use of the internet, it still tries to block content that it considers subversive or obscene, as was event last year when the authorities clamped down on social network sites, and other website, that were playing a role in protests in other world governments. They also tightened controls on the content of video and require providers to pre-screen material before putting it up live.
There was no break down on what the usage patterns of the 591 million people were, but it would be interesting to know how many are playing online games, shopping, chatting, are gold farmers or just spammers. We're not singling out China concerning the spammers, as many countries have their own fair share of miscreants, but with those types of usage numbers the breakdown would be interesting.

Democratic leader heads to Senate rule showdown
WASHINGTON (AP) ? Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid is driving his chamber toward rule changes that would help President Barack Obama win confirmation for some of his nominees for posts overseeing workers' and consumers' rights. But the changes might strip future senators of their prized ability to delay action.
Reid, D-Nev., planned to continue his push to let nominees win approval with a simple majority of senators' backing instead of the 60-vote threshold that has stalled many nominations. All 100 senators have been invited to a closed-to-the-public meeting Monday evening to seek a compromise on how to approach those nominated to serve in senior positions in Obama's administration.
"We're not touching judges," Reid said Sunday. "This is not judges. This is not legislation. This is allowing the people of America to have a president who can have his team ... in place."
Reid was expected to address the issue during a morning speech at an advocacy organization linked to the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank with close ties to the White House.
Critics of Reid's proposal, including the Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, called Reid's move one that would "change the core of the Senate."
Reid and McConnell, along with their rank-and-file members, have traded barbs over just what the proposed changes would mean, both for Obama's current slate of nominees awaiting confirmation and for future senators who can delay or derail agendas.
Democrats, who are the majority in the Senate, are pushing to erode the rights of minority Republicans to block confirmation of Obama's picks for posts on a labor rights board and a consumer protection bureau. Republicans previously stalled confirmation votes for Obama's pick for labor secretary and chiefs of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Export-Import Bank, but last week, GOP lawmakers stepped aside and said they would allow those nominations to move forward.
"Is there anyone out there in the world ? the real world ? that believes that what's going on in the Congress of the United States is good?" Reid said. "Our approval rating is lower than North Korea's."
McConnell called Democrats' proposed changes contrary to Senate tradition, which typically requires 60 votes to end debate and move forward on nominations or legislation.
"I hope that we'll come to our senses and not change the core of the Senate. We've never changed the rules of the Senate by breaking the rules of the Senate," McConnell said.
But Democrats control the Senate, and Republicans could be at their mercy.
"We need to start talking to each other instead of at each other," McConnell said.
It's not clear a conversation would produce any agreement. Reid calls the changes minor and narrow. McConnell calls them unprecedented and overbroad.
Reid said the proposal applies only to those tapped to serve in the administration, not for lifetime posts as judges. McConnell said it would fundamentally deny senators their prerogative to query potential officials.
Reid said the nominees would protect consumers, workers and the environment. McConnell and his GOP allies argue the picks are payback to Obama's political base.
"They're driven by the unions," said Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah.
Countered Reid: "They have nothing against the qualifications. They don't like the jobs these people have."
In particular, Republicans have objected to a pair of union-backed members of the National Labor Relations Board, Richard Griffin and Sharon Block. They were appointed by Obama when he said the Senate was in recess. An appeals court has ruled that Obama exceeded his authority, and the board's actions since they took their seats are in legal limbo.
Republicans also have objected to Obama's pick to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which was created as part of Wall Street overhaul legislation that was opposed by the GOP. Obama nominated his pick, former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray, more than two years ago.
"I think a president should have the right to put their team out there," said Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.
"Why we can't just do 51 votes is beyond me," she added.
Reid and McConnell spoke during separate interviews with NBC's "Meet the Press." Hatch and Klobuchar were on ABC's "This Week."
